Franciscan Father Benet Fonck, a renowned presenter, is slated to speak at noon Aug. 10 about St. Clare.
Dominican Sister Barbara Reid, a prominent biblical scholar, is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 about women of the New Testament.
Mary Foley, pastoral life coordinator at the Elmhurst parish, is planned to speak at 7 p.m. Nov. 4 about "Women in Ecclesial Ministry Today."

JCA dance team tops competition

 

JOLIET—Joliet Catholic Academy’s dance team successfully participated in two area competitions recently. The varsity team placed second in AA Hip Hop and first in AA Dance at the Bremen High School Invitational in Midlothian, Ill. The junior varsity team earned third place honors.

At the Oak Forest High School Illinois Drill Team Association Invitational, the varsity team took first place in AA Hip Hop and third in AA Dance. It qualified them for super-sectionals, scheduled to be held March 4 at Joliet West High School. The junior varsity team placed second in its category.

The dance team also competed at a national competition Feb. 3-5 in Orlando, Fla., where it placed 17th out of 35 teams and 35th out of 67 teams overall in the Small Varsity Hip Hop.

Members of the varsity dance team are Christina Andrew, Kylie Boothe, Lena Ceranski, Stacey Gonzalez, Danielle Hanus, Taylor Matichak, Erin McDonald Julia Mihelich, Rachel Papp, Kara Querio, Katie Randich, Lauren Stachelski, Jessica Vallera, Kristen Viscum and Heather Walsh.

Junior Varsity dance team members include: Erin Berman, Alexandra Broderick, Lauren Feichter, Molly Geraghty, Morgan Gniewek, Laura Grimaldi, Mary Malinowski, Hannah Mihelich, Breanna Plese, Samantha Reardon, Mary Grace Sartoris, and Sydney Schnuckel.

In other school news, the Spanish National Honor Society recently elected its officers for the academic year. Emily Soliman of Crest Hill was named president, Robert Vera of Joliet was elected vice president and Elizabeth Reyes of Rockdale was selected as secretary.
