Bishop McNamara welcomes Father Thomas Loya
Published Jan 25, 2008Bishop McNamara High School welcomes Father Thomas J. Loya of Tabor Life Institute at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 for a “Theology of the Body” mini-retreat. It is open to the public.
Father Loya is pastor of Annunciation of the Mother of God Byzantine Catholic Parish in Homer Glen. His experience includes directing many retreats and speaking at several gatherings, such as World Youth Day 2002. He is also the host of “Light of the East” radio program and speaks about Theology of the Body each week as a regular guest on Relevant Radio’s Morning Air Program.
The purpose of Father Loya’s retreat is to present Theology of the Body concepts to teens, parents and couples that will help them in future moral decision-making. In today’s society young men and women develop an attitude of skepticism toward established authority, making it difficult for the church to present its teachings. Faced with the declining cultural values, today’s Catholic teen has the difficult task of trying to rise above the declining morals. Father Loya’s program is designed to lay the foundation that encourages teens, parents and couples to question everyday issues or decisions based on principles of the church. It then shows the way in which today’s culture presents or misrepresents these important issues or decisions.
